Paramount has tapped Frank Borin to direct the feature adaptation of The Butcherhouse Chronicles for Platinum Dunes. Penned by Michael Hidalgo, the film is a darkly comic horror stage show about four high school students out to discover the truth behind a mysterious old property known as the Butcherhouse. It premiered in New York in 2006. Borin has been attached to direct Lionsgate's "Kidnapped." He's also directed music videos for Good Charlotte and Breaking Benjamin.

One of the men behind the love was Producer Peter Block, who you can thank for the SAW franchise, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, FINDO and a trio of upcoming horror films, THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, REPO! Now off on his own ventures, it was announced today that Block has launched A Bigger Boat, a film company that will produce the genre fare he oversaw as longtime prexy of acquisitions and co-productions at Lionsgate. SpookyDan stumbled on some big news at this week's TIFF. The Evil Dead Musical is coming to theaters in 3-D, according to Screen Daily! Creators Christopher Bond and choreographer Hinton Battle are set to co-direct the amazing adaptation of the stage play that has been running here in Toronto for a while. The film should go in front of the cameras in Toronto sometime next spring. "I got a change to see it last weekend," says Spooky. "For fans of the film, it's amazing, for non-fans, it’s a blood soaked comedy with some great music. The highlight song is called 'What the Fuck Was That?' " Watch for more details as they come in.

Today we added the first ever review of Starz's upcoming documentary, Fantastic Flesh: The Art of Make-Up EFX, which airs October 7th of Starz! The doc takes an inside look at the creation and execution of some of today's most spectacular special effects in Hollywood blockbusters, through one of its most prolific FX houses in the industry -- KNB EFX. From animatronic critters to prosthetics and character makeup to aliens, monsters and ghouls, the KNB EFX group has been creating innovative state-of-the-art effects for movies for more than 20 years and over 300 films as diverse as Scream to The Chronicles of Narnia.
Last night Deadgirl played the "Midnight Madness" portion of the Toronto International Film Festival where the 1200 seat crowd witnessed the world premiere of Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel's film, which ended in heavy applause. At the Q+A for the coming-of-age horror film, Sarmiento told the audience that he intends to one day release a director's cut of the film, which could feature more "intense" fun. We chatted with the directors earlier that night who told us that over 20 minutes were trimmed from the original cut, which could one day see the light of day via DVD or Blu-ray. They also joked that we might get to see some audition tapes as an extra feature. The film is still looking for distribution.

There's still an entire week left of this year's Toronto International Film Festival, and while there are dozens of reviews to be written, we've got an early start. First, we've finally posted our official review of Franck Vestiel's sci-fi horror film Eden Log, which will be released here in the States next year by Magnet Releasing. In addition to our review for Pascal Laugier's French horror pic Martyrs, the boys over at Twitch Film have posted another raving review for the film that's guaranteed to be the talk of Midnight Madness. Also added over at Twitch Film is a mixed/negative review of Fabrice Du Welz's Vinyan (review here) and a positive review of AJ Annila‘s Finnish "J-horror" pic Sauna (review here), which was earlier blasted over at AICN. Ever since Lionsgate announced that their remake of My Bloody Valentine would be in 3-D I have been nothing but skeptical. But since then, I have heard loads of buzz from people who have seen dailies and 3-D tests who have all said that it looks tremendous. In fact, the new 3-D adds depth instead of just popping out at the audience, which I'm quite interested in seeing. We learned this evening that the new Malechai has finally been cast in the remake of Children of the Corn, which is being directed by original producer Donald P. Borchers from his own screenplay. The actor taking on the creepy role for the Sci Fi Channel movie is Daniel Newman (pictured inside; Cirque du Freak), who is in Iowa on the set now. He joins David Anders and Kandyse McClure. The first of Magnet Releasing's "Six-Shooter Series" is Tomas Alfredson's Let the Right One In (review), which will be arriving in New York and Los Angeles theaters on October 24th. Today we were provided with the official poster for the film, which can be found inside. In the pic, a fragile, anxious boy, 12-year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boy’s wish for a friend seems to comes true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him. But Eli’s arrival coincides with a series of gruesome deaths and attacks.
