Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that they've bumped back the release of Richard Kelly's The Box from its March date all the way until November 6, 2009. Based on the short story by Richard Matheson, "The Box" stars Cameron Diaz as Norma Lewis and James Marsden as Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child who receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences.
NO! NO! That´s a year!
I know the release date was too good to be true =( (especially since there were no trailers, posters or any campaign)
Well I kind of saw it coming, seeing as almost every single horror movie except those damn Saw movies keep getting their release dates bumped back, many to more than a year.
I was a huge fan of the story, its in the book "Button, Button" which is collection of Richard Matheson stories. Get the book if you have not read it. The box is a very dated story but would work well with a modern update. Its a very good story and could work well for those that have not read the short story. I have a friend who worked on the film and said that it was loosely based on the short story and there were some differences. Im looking forward to it. Should be good for those that are tired of the remake chain, its pretty original.
The premise for the story in the book was "What if every time you pushed a button, you received $50,000.00..but someone you didnt know would die?" Would you push the button? How many times? Its a cool story. Actually really excited about it, even though I can't stand cameron diaz
